“Dustin brings sentiment, family and colour together in his expressive or evocative images. As a viewer, you get the idea that you get a direct view of his thoughts that are sometimes shared out loud. Images sometimes seem like snapshots, but James conceals a world of confrontation, beauty and recognition that hide behind them.” – Faria van Creij-Callender

My archive of film is vast. In 2016 I picked up my first analog camera, a Canon AE-1. Things have evolved since then. The toys more expansive, the film more expensive – and while my appetite for shooting changes with the season, the approach remains the same. The reasons I take my camera with me still seem the same. The things that I desire to immortalize commemorate capture, whatever you call it, still the same. I do not want to forget….

I scan each negative personally on my modest Epson v650 (thank you Sinha Tech<3). A very emotionless categorical labelling system helps me organize this constantly growing archive: scan001, scan002, scan003…scan997, scan998, scan999, and repeat. I have made many journeys around the Sun….

‘999’ is my attempt at creating a curated yet logical offering of my archive. This is a selection of 33 of those 999 memories.
